Pet Support

An article this week outlined that nearly 9 out of 10 pets were at risk of an early death as a result of their diet.  Poor diets, coupled with a lack of exercise is putting our pets at risk of obesity related illnesses such as arthritis, diabetes and heart disease.

The quality of life for these animals is poor.  They are less able to enjoy regular walks, jump or play. Some animals are also so overweight that they are unable to clean themselves properly.  This is a tale all too familiar in the human world too.

Studies have shown that people trying to lose weight who have support close to home do better.  They are more likely to make and stick to dietary changes and activity plans.  This support can also come in the four legged variety! A pets love and support is unconditional, motivating and positive.  They are certainly never judgemental or critical. Perhaps we should be making more of this support in practice.  Often as human beings we are more motivated to make changes for others rather than ourselves.  We need to recruit our pets in our challenges to become healthier and fitter.  They certainly will thank us for it in the long run.

Support your pet to encourage a healthier and happier lifestyle for you both!

  • Take a walk on a daily basis
  • Cut out chocolate, sweets, cakes and biscuits. (They have no nutritional value apart from fat and calories and definitely not for pets!)
  • Eat more wholegrains, fruits and vegetables
  • Play at every opportunity!
